December long weekend in Ibiza

Escape a few days early and take part in the big event celebrating the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Dalt Vila as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which will take place on 4th December.

On 4 December 1999, the fortified enclosure of Dalt Vila (Ibiza), together with the Phoenician-Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins, the Phoenician settlement of Sa Caleta and the oceanic posidonia, were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO

On 26 November 2024. Far from being empty, Ibiza still has plenty of life in winter. In fact, one of the most important events in the city will take place on the 4th of December, just before the December long weekend.

On that date, the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Dalt Vila as a UNESCO World Heritage Site will be celebrated. An honour that this spectacular fortified enclosure shares with other beautiful areas of the island such as the Phoenician-Punic necropolis of Puig des Molins, the Phoenician settlement of Sa Caleta and the oceanic posidonia.

In addition to various activities such as institutional events, guided tours and concerts, a drone light show will bring to a close a year of festivities by illuminating this Renaissance architectural jewel, which was commissioned by King Philip II in the 16th century.

If you’re looking for ideas for a getaway over the long weekend in December, come and visit Ibiza and enjoy its relative winter calm.

You can visit paradisiacal spots like Es Vedrá and Cala D’Hort without the crowds; visit places of great natural wealth like the Ses Salines Natural Park, enjoying the swaying of the flamingos that stop there during their migrations; go to one of the many shows at the recently renovated Pereyra Theatre, which has become the place to be in the capital for residents and foreigners alike; Eat or dine like a local in one of the inland villages such as Santa Gertrudis, which in recent years has been filled with cosmopolitan digital nomads; or visit the beautiful museums in Dalt Vila, which are free to enter.

Can Lluc Boutique Country Hotel & Villas, your ibicencan refuge in winter:

Another advantage of visiting Ibiza in winter is that you won’t have any problems with accommodation, as there are emblematic hotels such as Can Lluc Country Hotel & Villas that have decided to stay open this year.

This is one of the first rural hotels on the island, which opened its doors in 2003 in an estate that is more than 300 years old. Its location very close to the village of San Rafael provides quick access to both Ibiza Town and the rest of the island’s tourist attractions.

During the low season Can Lluc Country Hotel & Villas keeps open the 14 villas of this 25-room complex. Some of them have fireplaces and kitchen facilities. Upon request and subject to availability, the hotel offers a continental breakfast service and can book additional activities such as massages in its wellness centre, private yoga classes and the hiring of private chefs, among others.

Iberia Express maintains flights to the island during the winter:
Another of the advantages of travelling to Ibiza in winter is that airlines such as Iberia Express have wanted to contribute to the deseasonalisation of tourism to the island, maintaining their frequencies during the low season. Thus, the company offers up to four daily flights between Madrid and Ibiza, and at very competitive prices, from 25 euros each way buying a return flight through www.iberiaexpress.com and for members of the Express Club.

About Dalt Vila, a Renaissance jewel:
The fortified enclosure of Dalt Vila was built in the 16th century under the reign of Philip II. Initially designed by the Italian engineer Giovanni Battista Calvi, and later extended by Jacobo Paleazzo Fratin, Dalt Vila is an exceptional example of Renaissance construction techniques applied to defence. The enclosure, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on 4th December 1999, preserves its original layout, with which it was conceived as one of the most advanced bastions in the Western Mediterranean at the time. Ibiza Town Hall organises dramatised visits to Dalt Vila so that young and old alike can learn about its mythical past. For more information and bookings, click here.

About Can Lluc Boutique Country Hotel & Villas
Can Lluc Boutique Country Hotel & Villas is a beautiful boutique hotel with 25 rooms (of which 14 are private villas), which opened its doors in 2003 in an old farmhouse with more than 300 years of history. A family project by Tina Soriano and Lucas Prats, which sought to pay homage to the latter’s grandfather, José Prats Costa, by creating a hotel that would show the most authentic Ibiza. A rural Ibiza that connects with the sea through the views from its viewpoint, and its proximity to the Bay of San Antonio; and that invites you to enjoy the Mediterranean giving off unmistakable aromas of pine, fig and jasmine.

Can Lluc Country Hotel & Villas was remodelled by the Ibicencan architect José Torres, who spent 3 years renovating the old farmhouse and converted areas where hens, pigeons and mules used to be kept into sophisticated rooms that maintain the artistic style of the island.

The initial interior design project was carried out by the decoration studio Aixut Alvarado, while this was completed by the interior designers of Farré & Costa. In addition, the restorer José María Velasco was in charge of the restoration of some of the existing furniture such as boots, walks, farm implements, doors and windows.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the preservation of paintings by well-known local painters such as Pomar, Marta Torres or Ferrer Guasch, among other artists.

In addition to 11 rooms in the main building, Can Lluc has 14 private villas, some of which are equipped with a private infinity pool that offers its residents the best Ibizan sunsets.

Another of Can Lluc’s distinguishing features is its ability to combine romantic stays for couples with fun family holidays.

The spaciousness of the complex makes it possible for each guest to find what they are looking for, relaxing in its designer swimming pool with waterfall, having a cocktail in its own beach bar or on the Balinese beds in the solarium, doing wellness activities such as yoga, enjoying unforgettable massages in its wellness area, having fun in the playground, tasting exquisite local gastronomy in its km0 restaurant or going to the main tourist attractions of the island, many of which are less than 20 minutes away from Can Lluc.

With the aim of respecting the natural environment in which it is located, Can Lluc Country Hotel & Villas has been committed since its opening to the sustainable management of the complex, and to a proposal that invites you to reconnect with yourself in a magical place like the island of Ibiza.
